Ashley spurlock - director
Mr. Ashley Spurlock was hired as assistant director in February 2020 and elected as executive director of common ground in January 2021. He and his beautiful wife, Vonda, also serve as the pastors at First UPC Waxahachie. They have one daughter, Ashlynn. They moved to Waxahachie in July 2007 and have been involved in their church and Waxahachie as Waxahachie High School band boosters. They were elected pastors in April 2019 and have a heart for missions and the furthering of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Anita Barnes- Assistant Director
Born and raised as a child in West Africa, Anita Barnes 's family returned to the USA in time for her senior year of high school at Waxahachie High. She went on to attend SAGU, University of North TX , and Evangel University, attaining a degree in elementary education. She taught second grade for 6 years in Galena Park, TX, after which her family moved to Waxahachie when she began teaching first grade at Northside Elementary. Thirty-eight years were spent working for WISD in capacities of teacher and school counselor. She has also worked with the Boys and Girls Club and Navarro College in Waxahachie.
Ms. Anita has 2 adult CHILDREN, Adam and Anneliese, and 2 grandchildren, ELIZA (12) and Norah (10).
Currently, Ms. Anita is co-Assistant with Ms. DeShaun at Common Ground. She says that she feels this is where God currently wants her to use her talents, teaching, guiding , and loving children.
DeShAWN MOORE - Assistant Director
DeShawn has worked for Waxahachie Independent School District going on 25 years. She has been involved with Common Ground ministries for over 15 years. She speaks highly of Common Ground: “Common Ground Ministries is a great asset to the Eastside Community. It values the whole family, teaching, instilling, and restoring all who are involved.”
Sophia Lozano - Math & Reading Coordinator
Hello! I am Ms. Sophia. I am currently finishing my bachelors degree in Elementary Education at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. I love working with children and being a part of their growth mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I have worked as a drama teacher, social and emotional learning teacher, coding instructor, and a substitute for Montessori Elementary schools. I started with Common Ground Ministries in September of 2023. I am so excited to see what is to come with the students here.
